A Note from the Executive Director

Dear {contactfield=firstname|Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation Friend},

Audrey Hepburn once said “to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” Recently, the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation received a $1.8 million bequest from Snohomish philanthropists John and Betty Parks in support of the Snohomish Library.

Making a planned gift, such as a bequest, is often compared to planting a garden. Prepare the soil, or think about your financial goals during your lifetime. Plan for your harvest, or decide to whom to leave your assets. Have the right tools, like an attorney to help prepare your will or trust.

A planned gift is the ultimate act of believing in tomorrow. The “garden” planted by John and Betty Parks will have a profound impact on the Snohomish Library and its community for years to come.

On Tuesday, April 4, the Foundation will join libraries across the country in celebration of Library Giving Day, a national movement of giving back to our public libraries. Support your community library with a gift to the Foundation. Whether you can give $10 or $1,000, every act of kindness matters, and each contribution plants a seed for a better tomorrow.

With gratitude,

Darrington Library Trivia

  • Darrington’s first library opened on January 1, 1947, in the home of Vincent Inman on the west side of Emens Avenue.
  • In 1987, Darrington’s Town Council approved the construction of a new building for the Town Hall and Library at 1005 Cascade Street. The building opened its doors on April 28, 1990.
  • Darrington serves a large geographic area, including residents from as far east as Newhalem, as far north as Concrete, as well as residents of Arlington and the local Sauk-Suiattle and Stillaguamish tribes.
  • Darrington Library staff are superstitious about their snow decorations. Most years, the area gets a snowstorm within days of putting up (or taking down) the snow décor at the library.
  • The library’s Community Room is dedicated to Linda McPherson (see photo), a beloved library manager between 1987-2011, who, tragically, was one of the 43 people killed in the Oso mudslide that changed the community forever.

Did you know that the Darrington Library is in the process of undergoing a remodel?
On March 22, a temporary location opened at 1015 Seeman Street for continued access to library services during the construction. Take a look at the remodel design and visit the Darrington Library webpage to learn more.
