A Note from the Executive Director

Dear {contactfield=firstname|Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation Friend},

As we get ready to close the chapter on this year and open another, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful community for your incredible support through gifts, grants, and sponsorships that enable Sno-Isle Libraries to continue to inspire and strengthen our communities. Because of your extraordinary generosity in 2023, we are ending the year on a high note as the Foundation’s most successful fundraising year to date.

If you haven't made your end-of-year charitable contribution yet, remember that your gift matters. You are helping provide library programs and resources that enhance literacy, create learning opportunities, and foster a sense of community for individuals of all ages and from all walks of life. Please consider supporting our year-end campaign between now and December 31 and helping us raise $60,000 in support of our libraries

If you are looking for ways to deepen your community impact, please take a moment to learn about creating a legacy through planned giving and joining Sno-Isle Libraries Legacy Giving Circle.

No matter how you choose to support your library, we are grateful for every contribution, and together, we can create a brighter future for all.

I wish you and yours much health and happiness in the new year and hope we can continue to inspire you in 2024 as much as you have inspired us in 2023!

With gratitude,

Sultan Library Trivia

  • The Sultan Library service area includes the communities of Sultan, Startup, Gold Bar, and Index. It is nestled in the beautiful Skykomish Valley at the foothills of the Cascades, near the confluence of the Sultan and Skykomish Rivers.

  • In the lobby, visitors are greeted by the bronze statue “The Future Dreaming” by acclaimed sculptor Kevin Pettelle, a long-time Sultan resident. One of his many well-known works is “Late for the Interurban” near the Fremont Bridge depicting beloved children’s television characters J.P. Patches and Gertrude engaged in their iconic dance.

  • The town library was originally in a corner of the Women’s Improvement Club (WIC) Clubhouse, dating from 1927. In 1956, having outgrown the WIC space, town leaders included an area for the library in City Hall at 4th Street and Main Street.

  • In 1986, a larger library was constructed and dedicated as the Muriel Dorothy Bayspoole Library, in honor of an early library supporter and part-time librarian.

  • In the late 1990s, a coalition of forethinking community leaders and city officials spearheaded the effort for a new Sultan Community Center. The two-floor design would provide the city with a centerpiece facility including a community meeting and event space, a larger library, and City Hall offices.

  • In order to keep the library open during the new library construction, the current building was moved sitting on a large truck (!) westward down Main Street to 1st Street, maintaining service for community members.
